Odel

In the middle of Colombo, Sri Lanka’s emerging capital city, together with Blocher Partners Ganter implemented the Odel Mall. In this shopping centre, we designed an area of 1,300 m2 with extensive modifications, installations and specially designed and produced furniture. In order to meet the high demands of the customers and architects, we mainly undertook production in Germany; all components and furniture were shipped to Sri Lanka and assembled on site using local labour. The logistics costs, the high design standards and the tight schedule presented special requirements, as did the cultural and climatic conditions. For example, we were faced with an understanding of time in Colombo, which, among other things, differed considerably from how we see things in Central Europe. On top of this, it was necessary to respond creatively and constructively – at an average temperature of 35°C and with 95% humidity. Accordingly, we are proud to have fulfilled Odel’s desire to set new standards with this mall.
