a trendsetter in fashion retailing
The Engelhorn fashion boutique in Mannheim, Germany is an industry icon. Ganter has been doing expansion and renovation work for the traditional company for over ten years. The most recent project was the construction and furnishing of concept spaces spanning over 1,400 m² on three floors. This included the construction of a new studio with a unique atmosphere where high-end tailored garments and excellent materials can be sold. The architects at Blocher Blocher Partners wanted to equip the concept spaces with an electrified rail that could not only be used to hang LED lights, but could also support the weight of other suspended loads and merchandise racks. Ganter developed and built this rail, which will enable Engelhorn to quickly and effectively rearrange the sales floors and create a precise lighting effect. Another technical feat was realised in the luxury department: a mirror shelf like no other in Germany made of special UV-bonded translucent glass. The in-house tailor shop also attracts attention as it sits behind a beautifully designed industrial façade overlooking Mannheim’s historical city centre. Sheet copper, oak, natural stone and black steel were used as dominant materials to give this studio its unique look. The champagne bar on the fifth floor is an additional highlight. Over 1,600 gold-coloured metal sequins adorn the parapet and appear to flow down to the floor below. Ganter is especially proud of the fact that it was able to complete the project in just five months, which would hardly have been possible without meticulous time management and the ideal coordination of all contractors.
